Latin American Civil Aviation Council (LACAC) On-site Training – Seminar on Airport Certification

From 1 – 4 Oct 2012, SAA organised a LACAC on-site training, “Seminar on Airport Certification” Cali, Colombia. The on-site training was helmed by Mr Arun Rao, Former Chief of the Aerodromes, Air Routes and Ground Aids (AGA) Section in the Air Navigation Bureau of ICAO. A total of 52 participants from 12 Latin American States attended the training.

At the opening of the Seminar, Mr Santiago Castro Gomez, Director-General, Aeronautica Civil de Colombia, Mr Marco Ospina, Secretary-General, LACAC and Mr Soh Poh Theen, Assistant Director-General, Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore addressed the participants.

This seminar provided participants with an understanding on the airport certification requirements and the methodology and measures for airport certification from the perspectives of both a regulator and an airport operator. A systematic approach in airport inspections to ensure compliance with the appropriate regulatory requirements in reducing risks of aircraft incidents and accidents at airports was also addressed. As gleaned from the participants’ positive feedback and active discussions, they have greatly benefitted from the wealth of knowledge shared by the team of speakers.

The participants were also treated to an evening of sightseeing in the City of Cali, with visits to sites like the Cristo Rey and the River Cat Park.
