SAA Cultural Night 2018
SAA held its annual Cultural Night event on 24 Oct 2018, and around 300 attendees, including 150 international participants from over 50 countries came together to enjoy an evening of fun, celebration, good food and even greater company. Themed “Illuminance!”, the Guest-of-Honor for the evening, Mr Soh Poh Theen, DDG(ANS) sprinkled silver sand over the SAA60 Rangoli art board that was made in-house to mark the opening of the event.
The opening act was a lively Malay Kompang performance from the instructors and trainees of the School of Airport Emergency Services. With the mood already set right, a mysterious and secretive mask-changing (变脸) performance then greeted the audience.
The participants were then treated to Singapore’s unique culture at different food stalls and activity booths which included Henna, Chinese Calligraphy and, Rangoli Art. Additionally, custom-made SAA60 cupcakes were distributed to everyone as a form of celebration for SAA’s jubilee year. Once the participants had a taste of the local flavours, they had a fun time on stage playing ‘Pass The Word – Singapore Edition’, learning how to order coffee in local accent. What followed closely was the yearly tradition – Cultural Runway – where international participants paraded in their countries’ ethnic costumes.
Then, a series of performances continued to illuminate the night. 3 performances by our friends from Sri Lanka, Nigeria, Palau, Tonga, Cook Island and Papua New Guinea showcased their talents. Last but not least, the night was rounded up by a musical performance from SAA staff conducting an eye-catching LED drumming item!
