Course Outline

This course will provide you with an understanding of how aeronautical information and data are managed by an AIS Provider (AISP). Building on this basic foundation, you will also be provided with insights into the ICAO Roadmap for the transition from AIS to AIM and System Wide Information Management (SWIM) in the context of the ICAO Aviation System Block Upgrades (ASBU).

Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:

  •     Understand the responsibilities and functions of an AIS provider
  •     Recognise the key components in the management of aeronautical information and data
  •     Understand the role AIM plays within ICAO Global Air Traffic Management (ATM) Operational Concept, ICAO ASBU framework and associated Collaborative Decision Making (CDM) environment
  •     Learn the role of the regulator for the regulation and safety oversight of AIS
  •     Comprehend the transition of AIS to AIM as a prerequisite for a SWIM enabled environment

Mr Roland Baumann is the Senior Consultant with ITV Consult, providing support to manage digital transformation towards SWIM in terms of addressing change, establishing oversight, transitioning people and establishing platforms and processes. He has worked with ICAO, CANSO, Eurocontrol, and other aviation organisations for strategy development, managing compliance and regulatory affairs, mutli-national projects and services. Previously, he held the position of Head of Planning & Development AIM within skyguide where he aligned skyguideAIM services with all relevant national and international requirements and managed the transition from skyguide AIS to skyguide AIM Services in line with the ICAO Roadmap. He was also an AIM expert on behalf of CANSO in the ICAO AIS-AIM Study Group.
